Payton was diagnosed with Acute Mylogenous Leukemia on October 18, 2006, exactly 1 month before her 10th birthday. Payton passed away on October 19, 2008. Payton was 2 years and 1 day from original diagnosis and less than a month away from her 12th birthday. She was and continues to be a true inspiration. She fought an unbelievable battle and taught us so much in her short time here.
All net proceeds from this race go to the Payton Elizabeth Watson Memorial Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization.
The foundation was created to bring awareness to childhood cancer while keeping Payton's spirit alive. We accomplish this through providing support to educational, athletic and art programs and organizations that made Payton's journey with Leukemia a little more bearable.
